Introduction of the organization
About us:
The Starry organization is composed of people who are cared of the autistics and are willing to use their own progress to help them, including the autistics themselves or the family members of the“children from the stars”. If you consider yourself one of them, write a letter of self-recommendation to us by e-mail and tell us what you know about the autistics and what would you like to do to help them. We held activities regularly, including listening to several true stories, gaining more knowledge about the autistics and picking up colored pens to draw their unique posters. We will prepare gifts including a badge of our organization, a notebook, stickers and postcards for all the participants. You can read a variety of scientific articles, contact with therapists, special schools and psychologists, or ask questions and share personal experiences in the Q&S part on our website. Join us if you are interested!
Our Slogan: “abnormality” should not lead to abandonment
Inspiration:
The first time I saw the word “autism” was when I was in secondary school. Our English teacher asked us to read the novel The curious incident of the dog in the night time and write a paper about it. The main character of the novel is an autistic child, who seemed to be disabled, introverted and deviant, but with great intelligence. At that time, I merely browsed some information about autism shallowly, without doing any further study. After nearly three years, when I was already a high school student, I hear the word “autism” for the second time——it was when my mom showed me a video of her friend’s autistic son making tea-pot. She also told me a long story of how her friend struggled to help his seemingly abnormal child to develop and how she supports her son’s interests and dreams. I was deeply moved, and decided to visit the family and do some further study. My mother agreed happily, and appointed a meal on New Year’s Eve.
While doing research, I learned that a lot of autistic children are actually gifted and have special abilities, meaning that a lot of them actually have great potential. However, only a few of them used their full potential and self-actualized successfully. By reading some passages, news and interviews, I found that a lot of parents of the autistics emphasized the flaws of the autistics too much, resulting in their lack of courage to let their children try various kinds of new things or achieve further study. Obviously, they failed to treat their own kids normally, and even totally abandon their further development and education, thinking that they were destined for a non-ideal future merely because of their “abnormality” comparing to regular people. I wish this slogan can help spread the knowledge that autism does not lead to a life of failure——their lives have numerous possibilities, as long as you do not abandon them.
